Time Management Skills Training

Using time effectively is important in all areas of life, but it’s crucial at work. When we use time effectively we don’t just get more done, we actually improve the quality of what we produce.

As well as increasing productivity, using time effectively helps people be more organised and improves their personal reputation, which promotes self-confidence. Also, using time effectively can reduce the need to work after hours, resulting in greater work/life balance.

Who Should Attend?

  • People with busy schedules
  • People whose role requires them to work to deadlines on a regular basis
  • Multi-taskers responsible for juggling many different responsibilities
  •  Anyone who wants to improve their work/life balance

Course Topics

Owning Your Time - Ownership is what motivates people to perform because they want to, rather than because they have to. This topic lays the foundations for ownership so people are empowered and motivated to use their time effectively.

  • Core Principles of Owning your Time
  • Ownership in Action
  • Avoiding Misuse of Time

Prioritizing Tasks - Priority is determined by how urgent and important a task is. Unfortunately many people fall into the trap of thinking urgent and important are the same thing. As a consequence, more things become priorities but fewer things get done. This topic explains how people can truly prioritize their workloads.

  • The Difference Between Urgency and Importance
  • Factors that Influence Priority
  • How People Should Prioritize their Current Workloads
  • How to Handle Multiple High-Priority Tasks
  • Creating and Managing To-Do Lists

Cutting Out Procrastination - Time is a limited and valuable resource, so anything that’s likely to affect productivity should be tackled. This topic looks at the reasons why people procrastinate and gives practical advice on how to stay on task.

  • Triggers that can Cause Procrastination
  • How to Overide them

Time Mapping - In order to improve something we first need to understand it. Time mapping lets people see how effectively they use their time currently, so they can make short and long-term improvements.

  • Scheduling of Demanding Tasks
  • Productivity Analysis

Email Inbox Management - Email has revolutionised communication but in some ways it has made things more difficult. People now receive so many emails that managing them can be a drain on time. This topic helps people save time by organising their email inboxes.

  • The 4 Ds of Email Management
  • Choosing the Correct Communication Channel (Email vs. Telephone)

Making Request’s and Refusing Assertively - When we make requests of other people it’s important for them to know that it would be an effective use of their time. When people make requests of us it’s never nice to say ‘no’, but sometimes it’s absolutely necessary when we need to commit our time elsewhere. This topic looks at how to make and refuse requests assertively without causing offence to others.

  • The Right Language to Use When Saying ‘No’
  • Managing People’s Reactions
  • Methods of Closing / Moving a Conversation Forward Politely and Quickly

Delivery Style

• Transference (encouraging people to consider what they learn in the context of their day-to-day roles).
• Reflections on current use of time to encourage people to confront inefficiency and make changes.
